Zhan Tianyou (1861-1919) was a famous Chinese civil engineer and railway pioneer. He is best known for his role in the construction of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, which he managed to have completed ahead of schedule despite numerous technical difficulties and harsh weather conditions.
